New Year, New Leader, New Kill

A pack of wolves sat stonily in their respective seats, waiting. There were occasional murmurs and shifting about, but other than that, they sat still.

Normally they would've quickly splitted into smaller groups, it was much easier to do their stuff. Some would sit around talking, some younger cubs will amuse themselves. The older ones will be in charge of protecting their territory, and others will keep everything in order. Things were so much easier to do in smaller groups, as opposed to the awkward pack of over 4 dozen.

A mature brown wolf stepped out form the shadows and cast a critical eye over her new pack. To have to take over an entirely new pack was not encouraged, but not unheard of. The old leader had retired, suddenly disappearing into the human city.

An involuntary shudder ran through every younger wolf, though their eyes were still trained on their new leader.

She snarled, and they bowed their heads, ears pressed flat against their backs. Their selected Alpha female walked over to their leader and lay down at her feet.

The brown wolf glared haughtily at her, and stalked away, back into the shadows.

The other members of the wolf pack stood up and shook their tense shoulders. They were dismissed.

-----

At dawn the next day, the Alpha female once again walked up to the leader. She conversed with her, keeping her language polite and reserved. Suddenly the leader snarled and lashed out, catching their Alpha female in her face. She slammed down onto the cold snow and opened one eye slowly. The other wolves have already stood up, some bristling, some barring their teeth.

The brown wolf ignored them. She would re-mould them into her own ideal pack. They could not fight her, and they knew it. She had the Wolf King on her side. She stared them down, and only when the last of them grudgingly sat down again did she turn around and return to the darkness.

The minute she disappeared into the shadows, the rest of the pack had already moved over to their humiliated Alpha female, and started to lick her wounds.

-----

The wolf pack behaved accordingly, being polite and reserved when talking, doing everything as their leader ordered. They treated her with the utmost respect, though on the inside, they were planning a revolt, they desired her blood spread out on the white snow.

Small groups of two or three would gather around and talk about their hatred for the leader and how she humiliated their Alpha female. Their pride took a beating, and they did not take kindly to being looked down.

The leader lounged in the shadows, waiting for the Alpha female to come back with a doe. All the while, the other wolves in the pack started planning mutiny.
